If you have a home phone, a business phone, and a personal smartphone, you may give out a single Google Voice number and receive call notifications at all three numbers rather than switching between three distinct numbers and devices.
To make and receive calls, you can also use Google Voice on a computer. However, you must first have a Google account to access any of Google Voice’s capabilities. Additionally, you must already have a landline or mobile phone number in the United States.
How To Get A Google Voice Number in Nigeria And Other Countries
Google Voice has become quite popular with its virtual number available for the US market. A lot of Nigerians want to tap into that US market, hence the need for a Google voice number.
However, since Google Voice is not available to users outside the US, you will need to meet the following requirements to access Google Voice;

- A Free/paid VPN service
Get A Free US Phone Number

Get A Free/Paid VPN Service
Since Google Voice is only applicable in the US region, you will need a VPN service to change your location to the United States. This crucial step is necessary because if Google detects that you are outside of the US, it will block you from enrolling by displaying the warning “Google Voice is presently unavailable in your country.”
Several free and paid applications render VPN services. However, for this demonstration, we will use the Tunnel Bear VPN service.

The first step is to download the Tunnel Bear VPN app. Choose the appropriate medium below, either Android or iOS.
Choose US Location
Once you’ve created a TunnelBear account, go to the map and choose “United States” as your location.
Get Your Google Voice Number
Now that you have your free US phone number, and have successfully changed your location to the US, you can get your Google Voice number. Simply follow the steps below;
- Visit voice.google.com
- Click on “For personal use” and select the “Web” option in the drop-down menu.
- Sign in to your Google account by entering your Gmail ID and password.
- You will be asked to input your city or area code after signing in. Choose your free Google Voice phone number from the list after entering any US city.
- To obtain a 6-digit verification code from Google, you will be asked for your phone number on the next screen. After entering your TextMe phone number, press the “Send Code” button.
- A 6-digit verification code will be sent by Google to your TextMe phone number.
- Retrieve the verification code from Google using the TextMe app, then enter it into Google Voice and hit “Verify” to confirm. Click on the option to “Resend Code” if you do not receive a verification code from Google Voice.
You will see a confirmation message after the verification process is finished. This alerts you that your phone number has been successfully added to your Google Voice account.
