#1 Blaqbonez

Best Nigerian Rappers 2019

Blaqbonez is the self-acclaimed best rapper in Africa. Most times I tend to agree. He has been in the industry for a couple of years. Every year, the “BBC” crooner turns up. He featured in the Martell Cypher “The purification” amidst some other tracks.

Blaqbonez released his latest studio project “Sex Over Love” in 2021. “Bling“, “Fendi“, and “Okwaraji” are some of the hottest tracks on the album. The rapper looks fired up and already dropped two blazing singles (Commander, Go Home) this year already.

Emeka Tha Stallion has two nominations at this year’s Headies Awards for Best Rap Album, and Lyricist on the roll. Fingers crossed, he bags one or both of them.

#2 LadiPoe

Ladipo Eso better known as Ladipoe is a Mavin Records artist signed in February 2017. The track titled “Feel Alright” where he was featured by rap group SDC “Show Dem Camp” was Poe’s starting point to success. He released a track this 2019 titled “Jaiye”.

Ladipoe released “Providence EP” late last year and has been having a swell time. Effects of the album have been biting hard all through, thus taking the MC to a higher pedestal. Right now, it is raining “Big Energy” everywhere as his first single this year has been released. #But you knew that.

#3 Naira Marley

Best Nigerian Rappers 2019

Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley is a rapper and singer. Since the start of the year, he has been off the scene. I guess he was pulling the strings behind the scenes for his protege, Zinolensky. However, it seems the leader of the marlians had been cooking in the studio.

He pulled an Eminem on us with his recent studio album “God’s Timing’s The Best”. The album was released on the 30th of May. So far, the album has garnered over 100 million streams across various platforms.

Most notable songs on the album include; “Coming”, “First time in America”, “O’dun”, and “Jo Dada”.

#4 Zlatan Ibile

Best Nigerian Rappers 2019

Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael popularly known as Zlatan has also entertained us with good dancing skills. Zlatan already a household name carried on his form from last year into the new year. His collaboration with BNXNAlubarika” is still banging in the year.

His latest studio project “Resin” is still gaining massive airplay even though it was released late last year. The track “Money” which features Davido recently had a video shot, and it is really leaving an impression on people. Meanwhile, “Ale Yi” is still a TikTok favourite.

#5 Falz

Folarin Falana is a rapper songwriter and actor. The lawyer turned rapper, also known as “Falz the Badt Guy” is having a better 2022. He released his latest studio album in June, titled “BAHD“.

Some of you must have felt he slept on us in 2021 but he seems to be back on the radar. The album featured some of the biggest artists in the country at the moment. Tiwa Savage, Chike, The Cavemen, BoySpyce, Timaya, and BNXN all have a verse on the album.

#6 MI Abaga

Best Nigerian Rappers 2019

You can’t talk about the hottest rappers in Nigeria and skip the Hip Hop Legend. MI Abaga is one artiste that stays true to the game. This year sees him as one of the best rappers of 2022. Did he drop an album? Not yet but he has been teasing us all year round.

A couple of singles are making waves for the highly respected act this year though. The tracks “TBDK”, and “All My Life” are what we can hold on to at the moment. The tracks feature Oxlade, Sinzu, and Erigga respectively.

However, buzz going around says we should gear up for his latest studio project, “The Guy”. The legendary artist has been hyping us all year round, and we can no longer wait. When we thought MI Abaga was done beefing, we then hear a record dissing Yung6ix, King of the south. That album is definitely hyped already.

#7 Phyno

Best Nigerian Rappers 2019

Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike better known by his stage name Phyno is a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer.  There’s no list showing recognition of Hip Hop with Phyno conspicuously missing.

People thought Phyno was quiet in 2021, till he hit us with the 16-track album, “Something To Live For”. This is his fourth studio album and it is a blend of Afro-pop, Afro-Rap, Highlife, and hip-hop.

The album features A-list artists such as Olamide, Peruzzi, Flavour and The Cavemen. He makes this list no doubt.

#8 Olamide

People try not to classify Olamide as a rapper but I think he still is. This year 2022 showed us that. Even though the legend has not released a lot of solo projects this year, he has been on a generous verse-giving spree.

The legendary rapper has his latest single with Wande Coal, “Hate Me” jamming through the airways. Besides that, he has been featured on several mind-blowing tracks such as “ZaZoo”, “Sometimes Remix”, “Omo Ope”, and lots more.

He has hinted that he may be dropping his last studio album in the near future, so he can focus on the acts signed to his label YBNL. The likes of Fireboy, Asake are streaming large numbers at this time. Kudos.

#9 T.I Blaze

You can’t recognize the best Nigerian rappers this year and not mention the name, T.I Blaze. The rapper/singer most definitely had an impression since the track “Sometimes” hit last year.

It became an anthem to the point, that Olamide decided to jump on a remix with the talented artist. He went on to release a 6-track EP in February this year that has amassed over 100 million streams. He most definitely makes my list.

#10 Vector

Vector who holds Africa’s record (official) for the longest live freestyle session, is still very much relevant this year. Not to take away his crown by putting him on the 9th spot though. The year started slow for the “Crown of Clay” crooner.

However, it is about to take a major turn. The rapper’s latest joint project gives birth to a 7-track project. “The Very Special Tape Vol 1” features the best rappers in Nigeria. Acts such as Vader The Wildcard, Barry Lanne laced a verse or two on this EP.

Others are Denle, Payper Corleone, Phlowetry, Eclipse Nkasi, Dr Barz, Dabu The Gemini & MI Abaga.

#11 PsychoYP

You gotta give it to PsychoYP. At the turn of the year, the rapper has been working hard to step up his game. His latest single “Bando Diaries” is fast becoming an anthem as social media plays its role with the song. He has to be recognized. His verse on the record “I Can’t Sleep” which has Yung6ix on, threw me off balance. I rate him.
